Pumice Coating Mortar

Cleaning is the biggest problem with pumice stones. Small garbage thrown on the stones and dry plant parts falling from trees get between the stones and cleaning them becomes very difficult. Dispersion due to pedestrian traffic, animal digging, strong winds cause pumice stones to spread on roads and unwanted areas of the landscape. The porous nature of the pumice stones' surfaces causes them to lose their stability and become dusty, shrink and disappear due to freezing and thawing, especially in continental climates. In this case, the stones must be changed every two or three years, which can put people and institutions with landscape responsibility in a difficult situation.

Taş Stop pumice mortar is offered for sale in two-component, ready-mix sets as five-kilogram canisters and twenty-kilogram powder mixtures. If it is desired to be mixed in different weights outside the packaging, the mixing ratio should be 1 unit liquid and 4 units dry powder by weight. In the mixing process, the liquid should be added to the bucket first, and the powder should be added slowly to the liquid while the mixing process continues. When the color of the mortar is homogeneous, the pumice mortar can now be mixed with stones. The mixing ratio of the prepared mortar with stones is 3 units pumice for 1 unit mortar by weight. It should be checked that the pumice surfaces are completely covered with mortar, and the amount of mortar should be increased according to the need. Controlled water can be added to the prepared mixture. However, when too much water is added, the covering power of the product will decrease and the surface permeability of the pumice will increase. A drill and mixing bucket can be preferred for small areas, an isopave stone mixer for medium-sized applications or a pan mixer betonyer for large-scale applications.

The water absorption capacity of pumice coated with TaşStop Pumice Mortar decreases, their freeze-thaw resistance increases accordingly and they also provide strong bonding against impacts in TaşStop fixing processes. Stones should be waited to dry, and TaşStop Water-based resin should not be applied to wet or damp pumice. In order to fix pumice stones with coated surfaces, water-based TaşStop Pumice compatible with pumice mortar can be fixed directly on the surface without applying special mortar. However, the use of Solvent TaşStop Ultra is not recommended for fixing pumice stones.
